The days are noticeably shorter again and I find myself mourning the loss of the sunshine. So much time is spent racing to the next thing only to arrive at shorter, cooler days missing the experience of the present moment. I do not know about you, but life has felt busy, chaotic, and overfilled again. My to-do list seems never-ending and my energy to check things off is nonexistent.

And then I remember to rest.

To spend the extra 20 minutes enjoying a cup of coffee on the deck with my grandma in the mornings. To slow down and read a few pages of the book that has been collecting dust on my nightstand the last few months. To walk around the block and see the vibrant fall colors drip down from the oak and maple trees. My lack of energy to do additional busywork is intentional in forcing me to slow down, rest, and to spend time with God.

Where is the Holy Spirit diverting your attention?

How are you refilling your cup in the chaos of the present moment?

Where do you need peace?

God of Sabbath, allow us to intentionally rest. Help us to show up for you, ourselves, and our neighbors with full cups and open hearts. As the chaos of fall engulfs us, allow us to make time for what is most authentic, true, and fulfilling to us. Be present with us and allow us to feel renewed in relation to you and the world around us. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen.
