There are Many Ways to Help

We have been gathering stories and information from a variety of sources as the war waged by Russia in Ukraine continues to bring ever more heartache to the citizens of both of those nations. The ripple effect of these events are spreading widely and it is understandable that we be anguished with the concerns of how to respond. Know that even though we may seem far removed from the conflict, there are still ways for us to help:

Pray

As people of faith, we can trust that God is already at work in and amongst the people of Ukraine, Russia and the neighboring areas but lifting our concerns in prayer creates additional opportunity for us to become united with all the faithful. Our prayers assure those most directly affected that they are not being forgotten and reminds those with the power to make the necessary change that they are held accountable to the standards of peace and love that God, and those who love God and those whom God loves, expect of this world.

Give

Make a gift directly to Prince of Peace, designating “Ukraine,” and we will add it to the support this congregation is already committing to support our partners in ministry attending to this crisis. You can drop off or send in a check or make an online donation by clicking the button below.

If you prefer to make a gift directly to a particular organization, these are the partners we are relying on at this time (just click on the button for more information or to make a gift.:

LDR is the organization run by the ELCA that is supporting a variety of relief agencies already in place in Eastern Europe. ELCA-sponsored missionaries like Naomi Sveholm are already helping to support these efforts in their own ministry sites. We are designating one of our weekly Lenten offerings to this effort. Learn more about our Lent offerings here.

Lutheran World Relief is the organization we profiled during the Adult Forum on Sunday, March 27 and we’re joined by their staff person Emma Wagner during Going Deeper that evening. LWR works through partner ministries affiliated with the Lutheran World Federation, like Lutheran churches in Poland now providing temporary housing for refugees fleeing the violence in Ukraine. Watch videos of the Forum and Going Deeper sessions here.

Stand with Ukraine MN is an effort organized by the local Ukrainian American community here in Minnesota. Prince of Peace members Elizabeth Aslesen and Andy Kimmes have connected to their efforts. This organization is also hosting lots of upcoming prayer events, rallies and fundraisers. Click here for more info on these.
