Fall 2022 Schedule of Events
There are a lot of fun and exciting opportunities for people of all ages happening around PoP! Check out all of the exciting CYF (Children, Youth and Family) ministry events happening between now and the end of the year below!
Wee Ones
Who: Ages 0 – 3 years
What: Children ages 0 – 3 and their parents/families for a time of play, stories, and getting to know other families!
When: Sundays, October 16, November 20 & December 18; 9:45am – 10:30am.
Faith Rocks!
Who: Ages 3- 10 years
What & When: Every Sunday (starting October 2) the children are invited to leave worship during the sermon and have a time of songs and stories in the Narthex. Each week they will receive a “faith rock” with an image from the story of the week to help them remember (and tell you!) the story. Everyone will be back in the sanctuary in time for communion. All are welcome—including caregivers if that helps a child settle in. Faith Rocks!
Middle School Youth Group
Who: 5th-8th graders
What: 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30pm Come join Julene and Melanie for a quick pizza dinner and then some fun. (We might learn a few things, too!)
When: 6:00 – 7:30pm on October 5 & 19, November 2 & 16, December 7
Confirmation
Who: 7th & 8th graders (and interested 6th graders)
What: Confirmation will be rooted this year around the stories told in scripture of God and God’s love for creation. The goal is to have your students discover how the Bible can be a resource for them as they continue to grow and learn in their lives of faith. We will meet 1 or 2 times each month for 2 hours on Sunday afternoons (the schedule is below). Julene and I will teach most of the sessions with Melanie Hill, our interim Family Ministry Director, joining us on occasion. Students will also be keeping a journal, adding and capturing a variety of content throughout the year.
When: 12:00 – 2:00pm on October 2 & 16, November 13, December 11, January 8 & 22, February 5 & 19, March 5 & 19, April 16, 30
Note: Those completing their second year of confirmation next spring can expect to participate in a service for the Affirmation of Baptism on Reformation Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023.
Confirmation Retreat – Save the Date – January 14-16 @ Camp Wapo
We are also really excited to be attending the Abundant Life Retreat with our confirmands again this year. The Abundant Life retreat happens in partnership with St. Michael’s Lutheran (Roseville) and St. Anthony Park Lutheran (St. Paul). The focus of this sex and sexuality retreat will be on healthy relationships, using the Book of Esther as one of our biblical anchors. More information on this retreat will be sent out this fall. Our hope is that all of our Confirmands are able to participate. Even though we weren’t able to go to camp for the weekend last year, it was still a lot of fun and we are so excited to get a way for a few days this year!
PoP Rocks – High School Ministry
Who: 9th – 12th Graders
What: Coffee Fellowship – This year PoP Rocks (9th-12th grade programming) will be on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30 am at rotating coffee shops. For the month of September and October, we will be meeting at Caribou Coffee on Rice Street near I-694 (3354 N Owasso Blvd Little Canada MN 55126). PoP Rocks is a time for fellowship, fun, and a short discussion where we learn more about ourselves, each other, our church, our community, or the world. After PoP Rocks, youth are encouraged to attend worship at 10:45 am. We invite you to bring friends and enjoy a beverage of your choice on us. PoP Rocks will not meet on weeks that have intergenerational ministry events or other scheduled activities.
When: 9:30 – 10:30am on October 2, 9, 16, 23, November 6, 13, 20, December 4, 11
Family Fun Nights!
Who: Families at all ages and stages!
What: Family Fun Nights are back! We heard loud and clear that you’d like to gather as families and have a good time on a Friday night once or month or so. Looking for a family to help plan and host each night. Boardgame night? Minute-to-Win-it-Holiday Games? Bingo? Movie night? Let Melanie know what you’d like to do!
When: 6:00 – 8:00pm on November 11
