It’s amazing what can happen when you take an existing idea, re-imagine it, and trust the Spirit to take it where it needs to go. Such was the case with WOW (Women on Wednesday), an initiative that began this past September at Prince of Peace.
I mentioned to several women that I had been part of a WOW group at my previous church. Ruth Hagander wanted to explore the idea, and Serene Thornton and Sandra Rothausen accepted the invitation to be part of the conversation (and, along with Ruth, to be small group leaders!). No one was sure about the best way to structure WOW, what books to offer for discussion, or how many women would be interested in joining the group. But our objectives were clear: to make new friends, deepen existing relationships, and grow spiritually through conversations about faith.
The intent of WOW was not to replace the women’s Bible study Circles but rather to offer an additional option. One of the Circles has continued to meet while two others have combined for greater synergy. And on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, 21 women are now gathering as part of WOW!
