Peter Christ - November 7, 2021

All Saints Day

On this day when we remember the saints in our lives, it’s hard not to feel the heaviness of all that has been lost. Elijah’s story offers a word of hope to the faithful, even those oppressed or paralyzed by despair.

Scripture References: 1 Kings 19:11-18

From Series: "All Saints Day 2021"

The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. All Saints Day celebrates the baptized people of God, living and dead, who make up the body of Christ. In doing so, we celebrate the victory won for all the faithful dead, but we grieve for our beloved dead as well, knowing that God honors our tears. We bring our grief to the table and find there a foretaste of the feast to come. This November we will remember the faithful who have died during the past two years and be reminded of all those who watch over us from within the cloud of saints.
