“I will you build you a house,” said God. King David had offered to build God a house and this was God’s response to David and to us. God doesn’t need a house – God had been living in a tent, being present where people are. God was nimble. God is transcendent. God is not contained in a box known as a temple or a church, no matter how beautiful. God is where we are. This is good news in this time of Covid when we continued to be scattered rather than gathered together on a Sunday morning as we worship this amazing God.
